Hi Kathleen, I use the SourceWriter for new sources. They work in a Gedcom export and creating websites. They're converted to a Basic style. The limitation is that you can't import SourceWriter sources via a Gedcom as they've been wiped out. But you go from Legacy to Legacy via an export to a Legacy file. They're actually saved in the Legacy database in the published format as well as the templates and the published format is used in gedcoms.
Finding a template for a source that isn't specifically covered is at first a challenge. But it gets easier. I find I use a few templates a lot. eg the English census templates have the right fields for English Archive sources and perhaps the Irish sources are similarly in series with piece numbers. I don't use all the boxes - even when I'm entering census data - as I disagree with the placement of the folio and page number and follow The National Archives citation advice order. Why Elizabeth Shown Mills didn't do this is a mystery since she used USA National Archives citation advice in formulating US sources. Only the 1911 census which was released after her book is properly formatted. I generally use the "Basic Format" for sources for which the images are online though sometimes use the "Microfilm" option and instead of the microfilm series in the Master Source I put the website(s). This means that in the Source Detail I can also record the microfilm number for that source at the archive. A little trick you wouldn't know. You can see the number of the template you've used if in the Master Source list you put the cursor to the left of the header "Source list name" and drag to the right opening a new column.
