I
did not know about 'Families' until reading about it in this
discussion.

I
just finished reviewing the video by the Families developer and it
looks like nice software for someone who wants to make changes 'on
the fly' using their mobile device and is comfortable doing so. But
that is not for me. I need all the size of a full keyboard and all
the screen real estate of my 27-inch iMac. Heck, I'm having a hard
time typing on this laptop while we are away from home; I've tried
using my iPad tablet with a Bluetooth keyboard and it feels so
constraining.

Besides,
I am picky, picky, picky about version control or configuration
management or whatever you like to call it. My Legacy database is
in Dropbox.  I am the primary keyboardist from my Mac via Parallels;
my wife sometimes (not as often as I would like … she is a terrific
typist) inputs data on her Windows desktop and we each may make
changes using the Windows laptop. But we take turns modifying the
SAME database; we never have two versions of the Legacy
database.

I
know there is software to resolve this two version situation but I
would rather simply AVOID having two versions of my database. As I
said … picky …

My
iPad genealogy viewer is called FamViewer. I added it to my iPad 2
(and iPhone 4S) when I populated it with apps two or three years ago. It
probably has updated versions and there may be others around with
more features but inertia has kept me from checking the latest stuff. I'll do
that when I upgrade my mobile devices.

This
approach may not use all the power of modern software but it works
for me.

Which iOS app(s) are you using on your iPad and iPhone?
Thanks,
Joan

I run Legacy on my iMac using Parallels ... to be compatible with Legacy on my
wife's Windows machine. From time to time I dump everything to a GEDCOM so I
can put it on my iPad & iPhone in read-only format. There are many low cost
iOS apps that will accept a GEDCOM and display the results.

Things do not stay 'in sync' of course but my mobile devices are sufficiently
accurate for me to haul to the library or the courthouse ... or to pass around
when the family gathers.

As the saying goes, it works for me!

I have recently shifted to Legacy and would like to share my research with my
