I have been having weird, inexplicable problems with Legacy 8 myself. For
example, I can't get the Ancestor colors of Group 2 to stay changed. They
revert to the colors of Group 1. That is not as awful as the loss you have
sustained, but I believe you that you haven't inadvertently opened a
different file. Small comfort, I know. It seems to me that Legacy 8 is
fighting with something else installed on my computer that is also
installed on my laptop, because I am having the same problem on both, and
the laptop had recently been reformatted. I did contact support and after
several suggestions and attempts to duplicate it on their end, they
couldn't solve the problem. So I am resigned to using the default ancestor
colors and I backup my file every time I open it, just in case something
worse happens.

I wonder if you can repair the database, if that would help?
