Thanks for your efforts, Brian. I have come to conclusion that my pc is the problem, somehow. Reinstalling Windows is probably too drastic an action because of all the other programs and configurations that have been set up. So, I need to isolate a missing/ damaged file related to rendering images. I have run SFC, and it showed no errors. I get clean results from AV and malware programs. I have changed the default image program to about five different programs, nothing has changed, I still have the problem.
So my temp solution is to add the Sourcewriter contents as normal, attach the image, and Save the result. Then, in order to do the Source editing, I rename the default image path by adding an "x" to the end. This disables the problem, allows me to edit as required. When editing is done, I remove the "x" from the path name, restoring it to normal. I will try to have some phone dialog with the Support person who has responded to my earlier submissiom. Will try to drop discussions here on the forum unless someone else has the same issue. Again, thanks to all who have worked on this for me.
