Gene,

Backup your file (whenever you are going to do something globally you need to
backup first in case you change your mind)

View > Master Lists > Surname

Highlight --?-- and click Edit over on the right. Now change it to Unknown.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Mass update surnames

Is there a way to change the surnames of all tagged individuals, or all
individuals in a search list, to the same surname? Until now, I have been
using "--?--" for unknown surnames, and would like to change them to "Unknown".
I have 454 of them and hope them can be done simultaneously. Thanks!

Gene
