I can't say how Dropbox works, but with OneDrive, you don't need to have the
internet on to be able to access the files in your OneDrive folder - they won't
update the online folder and in turn, other devices, until you access the
internet.  I use OneDrive but don't keep it running 24/7.
Also, it is good to have online storage in place regardless of how you access
your files.  If your house burns down, chances are the thumbdrive will also go
up in flames.  I have also seen other people losing what they had on the
thumbdrive because it went bad - they aren't meant as long term storage.

To search past topics, just click on the archive link (fourth line down inthe
trailer in all LUG e-mails). There have been many discussions about Dropbox and
Onedrive. Anotheroption, if you do not wish to be tied to Internet access, is
to keep your ‘live’family files and a copy of your media on a USB thumb drive.
Physically carry itto the preferred computer of the day. Ensure that backups go
to a computerdrive, not back to the USB drive.    Ward  From: Norman Weston

[email protected]: [LegacyUG] Cloud for backups etc After
several years away from family history I have returned to itto see if there is
anything new to discover. After a few computer hard drive deaths over the
years, I am so glad that Ihad backed up both my family file and media to my
dropbox account. I live partof the year in one country and part in another and
I have my Legacy Family Treeon several computers. At present if I make some
changes on one computer I wouldneed to backup my file plus its media and
restore them on the other to keep itcurrent. If I fail to do this each and
every time I make changes, I couldoverwrite something I had changed previously!
So my question is, has anyone evermentioned or thought about any sort of Legacy
auto backup facility to cloud inorder that nothing is ever lost? Apologies if
this has been discussed before, Iam not sure how to search the pasttopics.
