I'm diving in and updating some of my old "basic sources" to "Source Writer" sources.
Besides the update, it is giving me a chance to do a better job with them. However, it made me realize I'm still not sure about newspaper notices. For a simple birth notice WILKES - On Aug 7, at the Victoria Union Hospital, to Mr. and Mrs. William Wilkes, 119 Queen street west, a son John. When you source it, do you leave it simple? "WILKES," The Prince Albert Daily Herald, 7 Aug 1926, p. 6, col. 4. Do you pull the first name from the announcement to make it easier for someone to find? "WILKS, [John]" The Prince Albert Daily Herald, 7 Aug 1926, p. 6, col. 4. Do you add “birth announcement” to make the source clearer? "WILKES, [birth announcement]" The Prince Albert Daily Herald, 7 Aug 1926, p. 6, col. 4. Or do you use some combination of the above? Do you follow the same format with death and marriage notices?
