Thanks Cathy, I kind of figured in the back of my mind that the “Combine with
blank” no longer worked. I did manage to go through each individual and remove
the event and then eventually removed the definition. To make it a little
easier, one can click on Show List of the definition and then create a Search
List of all those people. Then it’s just a matter of clicking on Find Next to
jump from one record to the next. But it’s a good thing I didn’t have 5,000
records to modify.

I did have some other identical events but spelled differently in the
definition that I did use the method of combining them by editing the name of
one to be the same as the other name. For example, “Divorce” and “Divorced”. I
just edited the name of one of them and Legacy automatically combined them.

So as it stands right now, Legacy has no means of deleting a Master Event
Definition (that is in use) in just a few mouse clicks. That tells me one has
to be very careful about importing any GEDCOM files from other programs which
may have events names that you don’t want to appear as an event name.

Hi Brian,

Yes it's difficult. You have to remove the Event from everyone.

I don't know whether it is something that can be done in LTools.

The combine with blank no longer works and should have been removed from the
Help. But it was done the same as combining any other two items in any Master
List using the button at the bottom.

Cheers,
Cathy

Anyone actually tried doing this? I can’t figure it out. It’s easy to
delete a Definition that is not being used but what about one that is
being used?

I have an event definition that is used by about 200 different
individuals. I want to completely delete such an event.

There seems to be 2 ways of doing this.

(1)Go to each individual person and delete the event. Once all
individuals are no l onger using the event, I can delete the definition
from the Master List.

(2)In viewing the Master Event Definition List, under the OPTIONS
button is a chance to select DELETE. But because multiple individuals
are using that event, a message is brought up that Legacy cannot
delete the event because it is use. They add a note that one can
remove the item by “combining it with the blank item at the top of the
list”.

OK, I’m not so sure exactly what that will cause by combining one
definition with a blank one, but if it’ll make the definition go away,
then I’d like to try it. The big question is how does one combine one
definition with a blank one? I tried editing the definition to a blank
but of course Legacy says I can’t do that. Any ideas?
