Hi Barton, I'm glad you found out where the people had disappeared to - I thought you'd opened a different database.
The zip files are backup files. I'd keep them in a different folder to your working databases - which are not zipped. Brian's idea of keeping the last month of backup plus the last for previous months is a very good one. You keep some earlier backups because it can be months before you return to a branch and then either think you'd entered more than you are finding and so fear you've lost data - and a check from a previous backup can show that the data wasn't actually entered into Legacy OR realise you've made an error which would more easily be fixed by recovering a group of people. Either way a much earlier backup helps. You can see which one you need by checking the Added and Modified Dates for the people concerned. Yes the Legacy default is to add the date and time to the backup filename. Very helpful. You may think the time is unnecessary but if you're entering a lot of data in a day, it's a good idea to backup more than once. To be a backup to help you recover from your hard drive crashing, the backups need to be off your computer as well. You may have good backup practices to an external drive. I prefer to keep them in a folder automatically synced to the cloud so they're almost immediately off my computer as well. I use Dropbox but I also have Google Drive and Microsoft's OneDrive. There's usually no need to backup your multimedia files so often. I don't use Legacy's backup for them at all unless I've made a small file to send to someone else and want to send the media with it. My attached files are in folders synced to the cloud so again they're automatically backed up. I do backup to an external drive as well.
