If you use plain text for e-mail, those should not appear.

It is always better to use plain text for mailing lists.

If you use HTML for e-mail, the à appears in some charactrer sets where there
is a non-break space (&nbsp), and there are often other strange characters as
well, which makes messages difficult to read.
