Barbara, The default location for Legacy 8 data is in your Documents folder
<your username>/Documents/Legacy Family Tree/Data You can keep it wherever you like but it would be best NOT to keep it in C:\Legacy\Data with your Legacy 6 data files 1) so you aren't confused which files are Legacy 6 format and which files are Legacy 8 format 2) when you completely switch to 8 you'll want to delete C:\Legacy after you've saved whatever you still need from the Data and Media folders. You can download and install the free standard version of Legacy 8 from the website. See the link from the home page. www.legacyfamilytree.com When you decide to buy it, you can get an upgrade price. You can open your file from where it is. You might get the offer to copy it to the new default location and convert it there. That is the best option if you go that way. I'm not sure what triggers that message except that my experience recently when installing Legacy 8 for someone is that it didn't pop up as expected and I can't remember what I did differently. As I said in my previous email, the easiest way is to install and opt to open the Sample file so you can have a look around and play before it is your vital data that you're playing with. Then when you are ready, restore a backup of your data.
