Good Afternoon,
I have a set of files generated from years of research on one immigrant
family.
I abstracted the data and created an event for the data which is now
attached to each person in the file [almost 400 entries]. The data for
each person is different.
Is there a way to insert a global description into the header for a set
of tagged people for a particular event? I really don't want to do this
one at a time.
I have an event set up for miscellaneous 'Family Files'. This
new abstracted data should have been entered there with a description of
where the data came from.
I used the name of the original researcher as the name of the specific
data and created an event with her name [Zink Data]
Here's what I would like to do:
Event Name: Family Files
Description: Zink Data
Date: 1 Jan 1997 [this is the date that I got the files]
If I understand you correctly, you have an Event with the name "Family
Files" and for each person you have entered (different) data in the
Notes section, and now you want to change/add the Description to "Zink
Data" and change/add the date to 01 Jan 1997.
If you want to change ALL instances of the Event it is fairly easy to
edit the Event Sentence. Select the Event "Family Files" in the Master
List of Event Definitions and click Edit. Exactly how you word the
Sentence depends on how you want it to read in a Report, but if you
wanted it to be, say, "Family Files - On 01 January 1997 I received the
following Zink Data" this is what you would enter in the If All Fields
Filled box:
Family Files - on 01 January 1997 I received the following Zink Data:
[Notes]
You will see that any text you write will appear exactly as you wrote it
but if you choose from the Replaceable Fields which are listed (which
you enter in square brackets) what appears in the resulting sentence
will depend on what was entered (eg your Notes) or is appropriate (eg
"him" or "her") for each Individual using that Event.
If you had received some of the data on 1 Jan '97 and some on other
dates, you would use [Date] when creating your Sentence, rather than the
specific one of 01 January 1997.
If you are wanting to make changes to the Family Files Event for only
SOME of the people using it, I'm not sure if this can be easily done.
Perhaps someone else will comment on this.
