Sandi,
Have you used File - File Maintenance - Check/Repair lately?
You need to do this regularly to keep your database healthy.
Also are you using the latest update for Legacy? Legacy 8 build 566.
There have been fixes in the last few months relating to some export issues.
Are you sure that the problems aren't in your current family file? When
you do a Potential Problem Report, are there issues that could relate to
these children being linked to the wrong parents in a different century?
When you say "I did this" what do you mean by "this"?
If you still get garbage, I suggest you contact Support.
It's quite possible to export a tagged group and get what you expect.

I did this and it exported people people and put children born in the
1800's as children of non-related folks in the 1900's. I created a
focus group with descendants only and got garbage... Maybe I will try
the tagging method

Sandi,
Yes.
You need to use tagging.
You can tag everyone with a particular surname most easily from View -
Master Lists - Surname
Highlight the surname and then use Show List and then tag on an empty
tag.
This may be enough if you're only wanting people with that surname and
their spouses and children as you can pick up those with the different
surnames during the export by using the checkboxes for surrounding
family members.
If you want all descendants of someone regardless of surname, then you
want to go to the earliest ancestor in this line and tag their
descendants only.
Then export the tag group to gedcom.

Is it possible to create a gedcom using only one surname and include
all descendants and all ancestors of everyone with the same surname?
Help appreciated.
