Robin You should be able to change that very simply, within Legacy v8. Ribbon menu: click Options, then (extreme left), Customise. Item 6 Locations, the first of these is 6.1 Default location of my family files. The button marked Change allows you to select a location. Mine is C:\Users\<my user name>\Documents\Legacy Family Tree\Data\ in Windows 10

But it will not update the file. It makes a new one in other hard drive. Then i have to move that one. This is getting to be more than a annoyance. A reason i wont buy the full program. And you may need to do a TOOLS, MEDIA RELINKER and/or a few other tweaks as well. (Take a look at TOOLS, GATHER MEDIA as well - I've never used it, but it appears this can be used to move your media from within Legacy (vs manually moving it via Windows Explorer and then relinking)). After that it should show up in your "recently opened" list. Or, rather than moving it manually you can do it from inside of Legacy. Do a FILE, SAVE AS (but this will leave your old copy still in your backup folder and you may accidentally open the wrong file sometime in the future). You probably want to also go into OPTIONS, CUSTOMIZE, and change locations under 6.1 & 6.2 - but from what I've seen these are the "preferred" locations but you can "override" them by doing a SAVE AS and then can save (and later load) files from anywhere. You may also want/need to change OPTIONS, CUSTOMIZE, and modify 1.2 Bob On 01/26/2017 02:10, Cathy Pinner wrote: Robin, It's probably best to contact Support to sort out what you are doing. some general things to check: If the data file on your hard drive is updating then you do have a working copy on your hard drive. Legacy datafiles save automatically every time you enter a bit of data and click Save. Backup zips are saved to the backup folder. Backups are restored when necessary, not opened. Is it possible that you opened a file from within a backup zip? That can cause a mess. Cathy ROBIN DUNBAR wrote: > Hello, I have a data file on my hard drive.
