Yes, Legacy Family Tree 9.0 will overwrite Legacy 8 but will not overwrite Legacy 7.5 or earlier. When installing Legacy 9.0 only some of your customized settings from earlier versions will be retained. Any of the font and color settings from earlier versions will need to be re-set if you want your own look and feel.” Could that be any clearer? I don’t think so. In fact, I know of only a very few Windows programs that don’t completely replace older versions of the same software when upgrades take place, so there is absolutely nothing unusual about the behaviour of the Legacy 9 installation, especially as it is clear that the underlying database will be substantially altered because of the new features and can no longer be directly used in any previous version of the software. So, retaining an old installation version would be entirely useless unless a user wanted to maintain two completely separate versions of their family history data. With software upgrades it is always a question of “Buyer beware”. Golden Rules: Don’t be an early adopter if you are risk averse; and don’t install any software without researching it properly first! I paid for v.8. v.9 does inappropriate things without notice or warning -- though even in that case it wouldn't be acceptable. I wondered why I kept getting "malware" warnings when I was using v.9 and had to white list it.
