Hi
If you open the Master Location List, from View | Master Lists |
Locations, you should be seeing your SSN entries with potentially
attached people.
If there are NO attached people you can use Options | Purge Unused
records to remove them - I do this quite frequently as I always manage
to set a date in a location field.
If there are attached people and the entry is not a location you can
use Options | Options for Non-Locations... to deal with them. This
requires you to Tag then appropriate entries and then Move or Copy them
to the Event Notes or General Notes. There does not seem to be a
solution to just remove them.
However, Option | Delete will not remove an entry that is in use,
but the dialog for it suggests combining it the blank entry at the top
of the list. After testing that I have found that it will replace the
'location' link with an entry to the blank entry and delete the fake
entry.
Regards
Chris

Dennis if I understand you correctly you could edit the location list
so that the SSN isn't being used by anyone and then Purge the list.
That will be much quicker I think. There are many on this list more
knowledgeable than myself. Maybe I should shut up. Good luck.

Several decades ago, when my genealogy journey began, I was using
Family Tree Maker. After experimenting with Legacy, I was hooked and

Legacy was to create a Gedcom and import the same. As we know, the
Gedcom format has its own set of issues. The problem is as follows:
The process left me with lots of items unceremoniously dropped into
the Locations field of Legacy. Case in point for this email; I have
had 570 social security numbers resting as "locations" in individual
Events sections. For some time now I have vowed to fix the matter once
and for all. Unless I am missing something (and I do so often) the
only way I see to delete them is by the painfully slow and tedious
method of opening the Events sections of each person, one at a time,
doing the edit there, then moving on to the next item. And so I ask
the list: Does anyone know a faster or easier method?
BTW all of the SSN are available in my Notes sections so there is no
need to save them in any way elsewhere; I just need some sort of batch
delete without losing all other "good" locations. Is that even
possible or am I forced into the previously mentioned "hard labor?"
Any and all help appreciated.
