Linda,
There's a problem with both the Index View and the Name List if you have
either Married Names or AKAs turned on and not both.
So try with both turned on, if you like Married Names in your Index View.
By Favourites I think you mean the 3 Quick Bookmarks along the bottom?
Are you saying that the people blank out or that the whole of that bar
disappears? I can't think of anything that would cause either. I don't
know why rebooting your computer helps. Doesn't closing and restarting
Legacy have the same effect?
Make sure you're not opening two different files, one that has quick
bookmarks set and one that doesn't. See the Recent File list under the
big L top left corner of Legacy or, if the L isn't bigger than the title
bar, the System Ribbon that takes its place.

Have you tried simply changing to another view then returning to
Index to refresh the list. If so does that show the new person?
Not sure what might be causing you to lose the bottom bar so I
cannot comment on that.
