Open your new empty family file and enter the person you wish to download the
information for.
On the tool bar select Search > Family search. When the results show, choose
the one you wish to download.
Towards the top you should see an icon for Import tree. (You may have to
"Match" your individual first).
The family file will import into your new, empty tree.
Make sure you use a new empty tree because it is a bear to identify and remove
all these individual from your good file.

Download the GEDcom from Family Search and save to your computer in a
convenient location that you will remember.
Open Legacy. If it opens with your family file go to file > close file and
close the file, leaving Legacy open.
Go to file > New File and select the radio button labeled "No thanks. Please
create a new empty family file and I'll do the rest."
When you select finish, it will prompt you for a file name and save
location. Write down what you choose so you can find it again.
You can then import the downloaded GEDcom into the new file.
