Please tell me Jenny how you made an "identifier" in the UserID. Or if you can direct me to a link that actually explains it without first putting me to sleep or scattered. I tried tagging and couldn't get the hang of it. I'd probably flop at the Focus Group also.
I have been using my system from the get-go, so it has been very easy to do. Whenever I add a new person I enter the UserID, suing a letter for each of my 4 grandparent lines, a number which indicates the generation working back from 1 being my grandparents, 2 great-grands, etc, and the RIN which I can see at the top of the data entry screen where it says "Individual's Information [nnn]."
Thus, my paternal grandfather is D1.232, one of my 13th great-grandparents on my mother's paternal side is P13.4697. The letters are the initials of the surnames - I am fortunate that they happen to be 4 different letters!
I think it would be too much of an undertaking to set up the system if you already have a few thousand (or even a few hundred) people in your family file.
