There are a large number of master sources built into Legacy. Some of those you can just use, or better you can base one from a Master Source.

If they do not match your requirements, which is likely since they are based around standard sources like census, BMD etc., you can always create a new source definition.

Taking that route, with the SourceWriter, you will be led through the path of using a pre-defined source, as a basis, or with a new type of source with a long list of possible types. Working through that process you can define a New Master Source which you can then use against multiple events.

There is a lot of entries in the Help system and it is well defined in the manual.

Chris and Shirley:

Thanks for the suggestions but what I really want to know is how you create sources for any information found in the yearbook that you include in your tree. For example, if the yearbook shows your ancestor participated in the Debate Club from 1935 to 1937, and if you choose to include this as an Event for your ancestor, what source format do you choose from those available with Legacy?

Hi

I would only use the Snipping Tool if there was no other way to save the image. Remember that it is limited to the resolution of your display, which might be lower than the resolution of the original image.

Per se, if the images are not available for a direct download then it is possible that they are legally protected and should not be saved locally. Probably not an issue if just used by you, but definitely an issue if they are to be published.

Hi Richard, I "snip and save" photos using the snipping tool on my computer, and save them in my documents file. Then I can attach them to the person in Legacy. In that way, I add all kinds of photos to my Ancestor Chart and to my Ancestor book. Its a bit complicated but it works. There might be easier ways that I am not aware of...but that is what I do.

I'm preparing to save info from an old high-school yearbook that's now available online as scanned images of the original pages. My problem is finding a source format that's appropriate. None of the formats in Source Writer seems to be a really good match so I'm wondering what other Legacy users have done. Any suggestions appreciated.
