All my records are in family subfolders for each surname, all under one
Surname folder (Thanks Geoff!) . My file naming method also includes a
document TYPE code so I can easily identify Census records.
File naming format example:
LASTNAME_FirstName_YYYYMMDD_TYPE_Location_misc. ext
My method is similar, but everything is filed in folders naming the type
of record - Baptism Images, Death Certificates, Wills, etc. As all
females are referenced by their maiden names, it would be very confusing
to file by family surname. Also include the record type in the
filename, and the RIN of the person, so
Bap - Bloggs, Joseph 123.jpg
DC - Doe, Mary Jane 987.pdf
etc.
Census records have a folder for each Census, each country and the
filename for the UK is the Census reference, eg RG9-1234-56-7.jpg. Very
often I have more than one family of relatives listed on the same Census
page.
