Hi Loren,

I have not tried doing File Maintenance in Safe Mode. Hopefully that will work.

After more research I found info on-line… the ‘Exceeding System Resources’ is a
knowna Microsoft Access issue. The following is a possible fix for the brave.
It would be best for most to look up this info and follow the online procedures
IF you have computer knowledge.

The fix may be…

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/all/how-do-i-prevent-run-time-error-3035-system/49b66089-4486-4a83-94e2-13eced66d686

Problem solved! Here’s what happened: In addition to error 3035, I was
sometimes getting error 3052 – File sharing lock count exceeded. The Help
utility recommended that I fix this problem by increasing the MaxLocksPerFile
registry entry which could be accomplished in VBA. To do this I inserted the
following line of code in the “form load” procedure of the form that was
getting the error messages:

DAO.DBEngine.SetOption dbMaxLocksPerFile, 1000000

This sets the register’s value to one million. I then loaded the form to
execute the statement, exited Access and restarted my computer. Since then I
haven’t had any 3035 or 3052 errors! In my case it seems that both error 3035
and error 3052 were fixed by increasing the MaxLocksPerFile registry entry.

Regards,

Bob

Bob:

My database is just over 1GB in size. I can no longer do a file maintenance
unless I reboot the computer in safe mode. I can, however, do a "compact file"
without rebooting in safe mode--and I have a fast computer with 16GB of RAM.

Technical support suggested that I reboot in safe mode every month or two in
order to do a file maintenance. Certain things can get messed up in normal use
of Legacy that get straightened out with a file maintenance, but not with a
compact file. At least, that is how I understand things presently. If anyone
knows better, please pipe up!

Hi Thelma,

I am having the same problem with a large file as well.

I wrote to Legacy Support on Feb 19, 2020, got a case number, but no reply.

I can no longer do a Compact Family File or Check/Repair.

My program is still working fine.

I have nearly 490,000 names but, maybe more importantly, my file size is now
1.59 GB. I’m getting concerned that I may be reaching the Access limits (2GB
max).

I’m pretty computer savvy but don’t understand “exceeding system resources”
when I have a high end computer with 12MB of RAM memory. I have also tried
doing File Maintenance with all other programs shut down.

Hope you have better luck with Legacy then I have. If you hear of a solution I
would really like to know.

Many thanks,

Bob

My database has over 482,000. I did not try to do this without having set my
preferences.

Just out of curiosity (And a bit of panic) How large is your file? If you do
not redo your preferences does it still give you the error?

There is a method of copying the preferences for a quick reload.

Can anyone help me?

I have started getting Error 3035 - exceeding resources when I do a file
maintenance. I am using Windows 10 and have the latest build for Legacy.

In looking up this error I get instructions to uninstall Legacy and then
reinstall.
I have now done this twice. Each time I did this I had to redo all my
preferences. Then I was able to do file maintenance one time. The next
time I tried and the same error comes up.
