When you install Legacy 9 it overwrites the Legacy 8 installation. Your family file will have the extension .fdb. If you have a shortcut on your desktop to open Legacy 8 it will open 9 not 8.

You can use Windows Search to find all files on your computer with the .fdb extension and it should find your family file. Note the folder where that is located then use Legacy File > Open File, point to that location and Legacy will open your file.

I have been inactive on Legacy for 3 years but have found some relatives and decided to up grade from Legacy 8 to Legacy 9 deluxe ,and also enter some DNA,I have paid $26.95.

I have downloaded the two files and have opened the PDF manual okay.
I think (I'm sure) I put legacy 8 customer number in by mistake when opening legacy 9. I had already made a shortcut on the desktop for Legacy 9 to keep it separate from Legacy 8. I renamed the Legacy 9 shortcut to make it stand out, but somehow I now have two shortcuts for Legacy 9. One shortcut opens legacy with a blank screen and showing the basic ribbon with New File , Open file. But I have been unable to open my family file, basically I have forgotten some of the "legacy magic" that i used to know
I have located the Legacy 9 Customer No.
I hope I have not damaged my family file and that it can be recovered

I hope there is someone who can follow what I have done and help me fix it
