Valerie,

When you use Windows search you are seeing many things which are not GEDCOM files. Windows is showing anywhere that ged is included in a file that is why there are text documents, spreadsheets and all the other file types in your 9 pages of results.

The .zipped files may be a compressed copy of a GEDCOM file or may be a compressed file which has any type of file which contains ged. The only true GEDCOM files are those with the .ged file extension and they will show when you use File > Import > GEDCOM in Legacy.

PS: If you want to send a message to Tech Support send it to [email protected] not to this list. Support people from Legacy do monitor the list but they may not realize your message was address to them from your subject and there is no guarantee they will respond. This list is primarily for users to exchange help and questions about using Legacy not as a Tech support forum.

This message if for tech support – thank you

Why are my .ged’s appearing in many different places ?

I appear to have .ged’s everywhere. When I do a windows key .ged I get 9 full pages of various record types – please excuse me if I am not using the correct terminology.

On these 9 pages I have the following:

GED file

Text documents

Microsoft word documents

Compressed (zipped) Folders

Microsoft Excel Worksheets

And some other odd “ things “

Most of these .ged’s do not appear in the list when you try File – Open but with File – import there are some there as well as some folders.

HELP please

Cheers from Valerie

Hi Valerie,

With the GEDCOM, download it to your home screen or a folder, then IMPORT it as a new file in Legacy.

That way you can check it out before and if you  want to merge it with another Legacy file.

Sorry I can't help you with DNA Painter, or the HR Pavilion, but Mrs Google can answer most questions, she will often point you to a You Tube video which IO find very helpful.

Good luck!
