Have read some of the User Group messages regarding testing of backup files. I tried this feature today, and am not certain I have done it correctly.

  1. I named my backup file "kaysBU.zip"
  2. I created a new folder in my Legacy directory entitled "test BU." This was in accordance with what one of the users tried. This also precluded overwriting of my regular KaysFamily.fdb file in the Data folder in case the backup was faulty.
  3. I restored "kaysBU.zip" file to the "testBU" folder.
  4. The file that was restored in the "test BU" folder is now entitled "KaysFamily.fdb – the same name as in my regular Data folder.
  5. Do I now delete the "KaysFamily.fdb" in the "testBU" folder to preclude future confusion?
  6. Did I use this feature correctly? If not, can someone please give me step-by-step instructions?
  7. In addition, should I do the "compact family file" before I backup or after (in case something goes wrong)?

Thank you,

Kay Haworth
