It all depends on which field you have selected to have displayed. There
are several choices. Open the Name List and change to the Detail tab. Then
Right Click on one of the labels on the detail tab. This will open up the
Customize Name List Detail Information screen. You can then click on any of
the eight Select buttons an select the information you would like to have
displayed. If you click on the Default's button it will reset the eight
fields to the original settings and the seventh one will say Preferred
Spouse for Field Name and *Spouse for Long Name to Display.

There are several choices for displaying a spouse.

Preferred Spouse
1st Spouse
2nd Spouse
3rd Spouse

Wm, it sounds like you have selected to have the 1st spouse displayed.

So what is a Preferred Spouse?

In Legacy we have what's known as Preferred Spouse, Preferred Parents and
Preferred Child. Don't let the wording of Preferred confuse you. Preferred
just means which spouse do you want to have displayed automatically next to
a person if you were to select a person. For example if I open my Name List
and select an individual in my family file who has three wives and is linked
to two set's of parents the preferred wife will be displayed next on the
Family View next to the person I selected from the Name List and the
Preferred parents will be the parents that are displayed above that
individual. Preferred Children make navigation easy when going down your
tree.
