I've had a practically worthless Gateway P5-166 since 1996. A friend
installed WxpProfessional for me. The Gateway now works like a
charm. However, MicroSoft as many other software houses do, renamed
commands and hid menus so the new user of WxpP thinks he is getting
a totally new operating system. It's probably 25% new and 75%
frustration finding out how to do the old stuff. We used a
"MagicSpin 56X" by I/O Magic that I already had, to install WxpP.
The latter worked fine until I dropped it. Legacy still works fine.
But replace CD-ROM drives (same make and model) will not install.

This is somewhat off topic, but there has been some question about
using Wxp with Legacy. We installed Wxp first and Legacy later.
Legacy and GENViewer as well as other apps worked great. Gateway
said WxpP whouldn't work on such a slow machine but, except for
being slow, it works great.

But my question is why can't I replace the CD-ROM drive?
