I received this on another list As I sit reading it I thought maybe he's right!!
Hey, folks... This is neither a question nor an answer, but I thought I would toss out the totally unsolicited (by myself, anyway) comments of a friend of mine---this was posted to, of all things, an email list called antique-tractor. Now Francis is a farmer, his screen name is just that---farmer. But, as you can see, he offers some interesting insight re web sites in general! <<snip>>The "KISS" principle is enforced here. :-) Now about those web sites... Decide if you want to entertain kids or convey a large quantity of information to adults or someplace in the middle and build it accordingly. I don't mind a slow loading site if it is loading pictures I will want to look at. A picture is truly worth a thousand words. It is the dribble that annoys me when I surf. I will use genealogy sites as an example. I have been working a hundred zillion hours on our "family forest" and this isn't about reading fiction for entertainment (though some of it qualifies). It is research. When I hit your tree site I don't give a rats a$$ about hearing your favorite tune, just load the damn page... If I want music I will toss a classical CD in the drive. Maybe there should be a standard warning on web links "Warning this link leads to lots of slow loading cutesy crap"... ;-)<<snip>> To unsubscribe please visit: http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/LegacyLists.asp Legacy User Group Etiquette guidelines can be found at: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp
