John... I have much the same situation with lots of, let's say, Samuels. The occasional Jr. is listed but in most cases it's simply Samuel who's father was Samuel kind of thing. In order to keep this straight and to have the wished-for "post-nomials" I simply create them ... in the suffix position but in an identifiable format ... i. e. (Jr). (with parens AND the period. In some cases we have (III). , (IV). or (V). .
Seems to help a great deal and doesn't in any way compromise the information. A global search and replace will remove with no harm done (if necessary). Just a thought... I wanted to add a couple of comments. Over in VA and NC, there are several sets of John Lancasters Sr. and Jr. - I could wish for some titles and post nominals for some of those.<snip> Titles and other designations can help with the sorting. These prefix and suffix fields are useful in that. I use them - if more data is needed about a title or other designation, then an event can be created, the data can be put in notes, or it can be added (mabye the best answer) into the source citation for the title, under source detail. trapper John Lancaster, author of The Electronic Genealogist To unsubscribe please visit: http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/LegacyLists.asp Legacy User Group Etiquette guidelines can be found at: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp
