I just received a GEDCOM from a distant cousin who didn't include AKA's at
all. Now I am going through a file of over 1000 people trying to input
AKA's for married females. I was thinking just yesterday how nice it would
be if Legacy could do that for me. What an opportune time for Wyn to have
posted this. I too would like to see the addition of such a feature.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Automatic AKA's

I believe this situation illustrates the need to have an option to get
Legacy to automatically generate AKA's for married females. (It should be an
"option" as not everyone may want to choose this action).

This won't completely solve the problem but at least it will be possible to
find the married females under their married names as well as their maiden
name.

However, there still remains the "problem" of "Jon White" marrying "Mary
"Smith" (previously "Mary Gordon", nee "Harris"). Setting aside any GEDCOM
issues, I personally would like to be able to enter and view all these name
permutations and believe it would be a popular enhancement to Legacy - and
put it even further ahead of other genealogical programs!

Lastly, if something is done, it would be nice if the AKA's (etc) could be
included in the indexes for reports and web pages....

I, too, am interested in the responses to this one. I have been putting all
names but the last married one in the first name slot (Mary Jane Jones) then
the name being used at the time of the marriage (Smith) in the surname slot.
That is only if she marries into my lines. I hope that method does not cause
problems later on. (As I found that my "creative" locations did! I just
about have them straightened out after quite a few hours of work.)

I have a cousin who has married several times, so her surname has to be the
one that connects her to our line, and then I just add each husband as he
has appeared chronologically.
