Bill,

This is true if Millennia were ahead of the competition. If they would publish
it now maybe those users who really want (or need) certain things to be
implemented, but are reluctant to switch, might decide to stay when they saw
that it is being worked on.
Besides that, I think it is pretty obvious what users want. If Millennia were
to say: "We are aiming to release an International Version of Legacy with
Middle Names and Witness-capabilities in August 2003" that wouldn't be much of
an eye-opener for the competition I think. Some users might think though:
"Great, I'll keep my money and wait for that first".

Wim

[I can understand the list members desire for a copy of the enhancement list.
[However, I think some of us may have forgotten that Millennia Corp. is in a
[competitive environment. Revealing its future plans before THEY are ready
[to do so, could seriously impact their future market share, and thereby
[their ability to continue to offer upgrades and enhancements to our favorite
[program. I know if I were in their position, unless a non-disclosure
[agreement were in place with every member of the list, I would not give away
[my future plans on any software that I was developing.

[Perhaps it could be a good idea for the staff at Millenia to let the
[User Group to see a list of all requests for improvement of the program
[in order of when they intend to implement them, with reasons for delay
[of implementation or not implementing them at all.

[If Henry is right about this, it would be fine if one of the
[higher-ups at Millennia would step in and confirm, so as to avoid
[a, perhaps unnecessary, discussion which likely will get heated.
 [
[If Millennia could go so far as to say "WE REALLY WOULDN'T MIND
[accomodating same-sex marriages / partnerships, which are legal
[many places, but it would require an inordinate amount of time /
[resources / whatever...", then they could nip this discussion in
[the bud. But, of course, I don't want them saying it if they
 [don't mean it.
 [
[The matter is controversial. Even here in Norway, where such
[partnerships have been legal for some time and where people living
[in such partnerships work as ministers in the State Church, there
[is controversy. Just now, for example, several missionary
[organizations in Northern Norway are refusing to work together
[with the bishop in the district because of his opinion.
 [
[But, as has been pointed out, people need the option in genealogy
[software, and anyone not needing nor wanting to use it, won't have
 [to.

[Suggesting that this request is being denied out of contrary
[beliefs is unfortunate and from what has been stated previously,
[inaccurate. This subject comes up periodically and was at one time
[addressed by the folks at Millennia. The understanding was that
[significant resources would be needed to address this and that it
[would be very difficult to program.
[The expenditure on this particular wish would preclude other needs
[which would seem to indicate priority based on requests. Please
[remember Millennia is a small independent company which does not
[have the same resources as the large financial resources available
[to other genealogical programs. That is why Legacy is so special.
[Not every request has been incorporated into the product as yet,
[but they do seem more interested in listening to us than any other
[program of which I am aware.

[I am dissapointed to hear this. Means I again have to go look for
[a genealogy program that doesn't insist a man is female or vice
 [versa.
 [
[One might not like the fact that males marry another male or
[female marry a female, but in some countries as well as some
[states in the USA that is a fact of life covered in their laws.
 [
[Pity a good product decides not to be one out of beliefs.

[> I was told today from Tech Support that same sex relationships
[will not be an change for Legacy now or in the future. It is too
[bad that ones beliefs system has gotten in a way of a good
[product. I just received my complete program yesterday along with
[the videos and am now sending it back for a refund because of
[this. I am going back to TMG and put up with the wait.

[Legacy, I think there is one major improvement wanted: The MIDDLE
[name field, not only from us in Europe, but allso from all people

 [Same Sex relations is another.
