Wouldn't it be just as easy to use the Marriage List option in Legacy and search either by the husbands last name or the wifes maiden name?
Husband Name: John Smith Wife Maiden Name: Mary Jones Key in Smith or as many characters as needed in the Husband field to get to all the Smith name and they are arranged alphabetically. You now have all the wives maiden names located to the right of their respective husband and you can select that name to make your changes/additions. Likewise, you can seach on the wifes maiden name and find her husbands last name with little effort. Unless I am misunderstanding something I think this should work quite well for you.
