A couple of ways to do this:

1 Go to the Icon WIFES, and on the screen press the button Add ad.
wife. From that you creat a wife unlinked to former kids.

If you want to add children to a known couple go to marriage list, be
certain it's the right couple and choose that.

If you only know one of the parents, and don't have confirmed that
husband/wife is the right one, just link to the known person, and
man/wife is added as Unknown.

In fact, the only weekness I have found in this cases is: If you find that
you have a wrong mother and "divorce" her from the husband she
brings the children with her.
