1. Locate your legacy directory. It is probably either C:\Legacy or C:\Legacy40.
2. Open that folder.
3. There are several files in there that end with ".USR".
4. You particularly want to safeguard "legacy.usr"
5. Make a folder (or subdirectory) for this. Call it what you like, but don't duplicate a folder name. I call mine "C:\LgcyUsr"
6. Copy the legacy.usr file over to your LgcyUsr folder.
7. OPTIONAL. You can also copy other USR files, but it is not necessary that you do. I don't copy anything but just the Legacy.usr file.
You are done.
Now, when you update your Legacy, here's what I would do.
1. Make a backup of your data file.
2. Store that backup OFF the computer if possible.
3. Copy the current data files to another place on the hard drive, OR to CDs, diskettes.
4. Make sure you have the latest USR file in your "safe" place. The user settings change everytime you change Legacy settings.
5. Update Legacy.
6. Boot it up. Do you like it? If the settings are wrong, go get your backup copy of the USR settings.
7. Data file ok? If not, replace that with your copy.
At this point, everything should be as you left if before.

I would believe that you are right that some people do not know how to do this. Could you explain this slightly better so I and others who do not know what to do can do it.

Jim-
That is not a bad idea, but I would be willing to wager not all everyone on the list knows how to do this. I save my user settings and custom settings in another directory that Legacy does not make use of. I copy that and save it in "C:\MyLegStngs." That way, if I do need a copy of it, I can just copy that back over.
