I'm running W2kSP3. I have not experienced any of the problems you mention.
My reports seem to work fine. And I too am a stickler for correctness. My only real disappointments with Legacy are in its "Search" and "Source Citation" functions. Both are somewhat rudimentary. I was especially disappointed when I saw that version 5 did not address either issues.

Deck,
What version of Windows are you using? WinME and WinXP customers reported
problems with Legacy 3 and 4 Narrative report formatting in RTF output from
November 2000 to about June 2002. Font settings in Legacy were affected by
some change in Windows. Some programs do not run correctly when WinXP is set
to look like old versions of Windows.

Legacy 5 comes closer than any other current program to a narrative similar
to my 1970 typed notes distributed to family, however the wording and
spacing needs to be good enough for a PDF book file with pictures. Report
formatting is not critical for researchers who concentrate on collecting
details *until* they need a well worded book report the week before a family
gathering. Then it is too late to upgrade Windows or GEDCOM data to a
different program or edit every sentence in a word processor.

Some builds of Legacy 3 and 4 had unexpected changes that affected reports.
Then it was necessary to wait for a fix or use an older (saved) backup file
with an earlier version (saved) download of the program file. Researchers
with the most complex databases on older computers have the most to lose if
they do not test the current versions of their favorite software. -- family
