As a test, I left Legacy open most of today; closed all unnecessary programs except antivirus and firewall. I did some stuff on the internet, returned to Legacy and put in a little data. Then left the computer on for a few hours while I did other things. Came back and did some net surfing. After Legacy had been on 13 hours, I went to my own Individual Information screen. All fields in the top half were blank. I clicked on the Source icon and selected a source. The Source data fields on the bottom half of the screen were blank. I returned to the Family View screen. My Name field said "Unknown;" the Birth field was blank. I selected the Name List; my name was "Unknown." Legacy froze up at this point. I had used Ctrl-Alt-Del and got the message, "Program not responding." When I re-opened Legacy, my name was still "Unknown" and the Indiv Info fields were blank. I re-entered my info by hand.
This is repeatable if I leave Legacy open long enough. The data for an individual disappears only if I enter the Individual Information screen. Regardless of how many programs I have running, I do not have these problems until Legacy has been open for many hours. I never get any messages indicating insufficient memory. I'm at a loss, but nervous about losing data. I'm making more frequent backups now. Sherry, if you want any more details, let me know. John S. I have Legacy open for the better part of the day as the programmers do I'm sure. We're all on Windows XP. I have had my computer freeze on me, but I can't blame it on Legacy as it will freeze even when Legacy isn't up - it froze on me once when I was doing a defrag and no other programs running at all! I haven't noticed any memory leaks with Legacy. Some days I'm in and out of the program a lot, depending on what kind of messages I'm answering and I haven't seen any degradation of available memory I would suggest taking a look at other programs that might be running along with doing some hardware diagnostics. I have this problem with WinXP Home, 512Mb mem, 800MHz Pentium III. 1. As Bill reported, my problem is associated with having Legacy open for a long time (8 hrs or more). 2. When I go to the Individual Information screen, all the data fields at the top of the page (Name, Birth, Death) are blank (as Bill reported), but the labels for fields with sources are colored. 3. When I click on the Sources icon I get the Assigned Sources list, but if I highlight one of the sources, the source information on the lower half of the screen is blank. 4. When I return to the Family View screen, the Name, Birth and Death info is all there. 5. If I exit Legacy and re-open it, all the data fields in Individual Information return to normal. 6. Occasionally--and I'm not sure what actions cause this--after I return to the Family View from Individual Information, the Name field says "Unknown" and the Birth, Death, and Buried fields are blank. Re-starting Legacy does not re-establish the data--Name is still "Unknown," and I have to re-enter the data or restore a back up file. 7. A couple of times, when this problem has occurred, while I have navigated around Legacy trying to figure out what's going on, the program and the computer freezes up--no response from mouse or keyboard. Have to re-start the computer. I have Legacy Deluxe, 11 May build, but the problem occurred before the latest build. Any suggestions from users or Support? John S.
