I have never used FTM at all, so I can't compare TreeDraw 3 with that. I have used TreeDraw extensively though and love it. I have made wall charts as large as 11 x 6 feet, and am in the process of making a booklet with pages 8 1/2 " x 11". There is no need for gedcoms when you use TreeDraw as it takes the information directly from the Legacy Files. You can edit, add photo's and notes if you desire. You can put squares, cirlces, ovals or whatever you choose around anything you want to. For example, on my booklet pages when I have someone on page 6 and page 10, I type in red "see page 10" (without quotations), then surround it with a rectangle. You have a choice of different lines (I am not using squares around the names), I am using lines to connect the names and have decided on a heavier line for the main line(s) which could also be a different color if I wished. There are many options. It does take time to learn, but is well worth it. I have recently upgraded to TreeDraw 3 which has been improved from the TreeDraw 2. It's great.
I will get my husband to show me how to do a page dump tonight so that I can send an example of one of my pages to the list.

At present I use FTM 4.0 and gedcoms for making wall charts. Is it worth the money to go with TreeDraw 3 to do this?

Hi Cathy and Dick
About the only reason I keep FamilyTreeMaker active is that is will do a direct-line descendant chart with ease.
If you have even an old version of FTM around, you could make a gedcom file of your ever-so-great grandparents' descendants for as many generations as you need, bring it up in FTM and use it's Outline Descendant Tree feature. In it is the option of choosing a direct line to which ever single descendant you favor.
I still prefer Legacy in most uses, but I do wish they'd ad the direct line feature. Dave Bardue
