I think the bottom line is to merge duplicate individuals and all links
should be restored.
Of course we should try not to enter a person twice.

I would think you do not want to link a second time.
Tell me if this is what you're doing:

Add a wife as individual and linked to husband, maybe with children, too.
Time elapses.
Add the wife as an individual again.
Start to link to husband and get message "Link again?"

Right?
Well, I would stop there and merge the two individuals--who are the same
person, right?

If this response is way off the mark and you're still looking for help, you
might want to give us a step-by-step description of what you're doing.
