Living flag may cause problems with file transfers. Wall chart may be confusing if there are undated or unsorted births.
I much prefer estimated dates over sort dates or words in date fields. If birth dates are left blank, it is harder to create a list of people who *might* have been alive at the time of a census or event registration. A child with undated birth could sort first or last after a file transfer. Usually I know enough to guess a date closer than "about 100 years before the death date."
