Hi Marina,

I could do it by searching for those with Census date of 2 Apr 1871 - that is, I put the date of the census in the date field and it's unlikely this exact date is there for any other event. The other events like Occupation where the census is a source I date with just the year.

You have the people you want to check in the census tagged 3.
I could tag the people I've found in 1871 tag 4
The people I then need to find are those with tag 3 = tagged and tag 4 = untagged.

BTW I have only one Census event for English censuses but have a separate US Census event for the one US family I have.

The default Census event sentence definitions seem to suggest putting the name of the actual census in the description field. If you've done that, you could search on that field.

I use the description field for head of household and relationship to head of household
eg Tom Smith as Cook; Mary Jones, her mother.
with a Sentence definition:
[FirstHeShe] was recorded on the British census of [Date] [atPlace] in the household of [Desc].[Sources][CR][Notes]

That may not be any help to you :-(
Cheers,
Cathy

Goal: To create a list of all ancestors whom I need to find an 1871 census
return for

So, I have created the following list so far:
-All ancestors of Me
-Where birth date or christening date is before 1871
-Where death date is blank or after 1871

I have tagged all these individuals with Tag#3 (45 individuals).

Now I want to search for individuals within this list who don't have a
census event with date 1871. If I had a census event called "1871 Census"
this would be easy. But how can I do this by using the regular census
event?

I have tried the following search criteria:
- Event name not equal to census and date not equal to 1871
- Event date is not equal to 1871
Both searches give 16 results but include individuals with 1871 Census
(because they have other events?)

What is the correct search criteria for this search?

Thanks in advance,
Marina
