Thank you, Bob and Cathy. I had a whole different idea of what you were
saying.

Hi Marie,

I think there was a misunderstanding about WHERE there was a single
Census event entry. I meant that I have only one entry in my event
list that is called Census (so I don't have to duplicate event
definitions), not that each individual has only one event called Census.
They have as many Census events as times I found them in a census.

I see that Cathy has already sent an example, so I don't have to!

Bob

Bob wrote <It seems to me that separate Events for each census is a bit of
overkill. I use just one Event named Census and then the census date
is placed in the date field and the census description becomes the
source.>

Hi Bob, Whether entering separate Census Events is overkill depends upon
how one wants to view and understand information. Taking a very difficult
to find
person, listing each thing I know about them chronologically, then adding
anything
I learn, reading and rereading it has helped me move forward with research
for that
person. One of the features I appreciate about Legacy is the view that
lists event
chronologically. I therefore want each census to be listed in proper time
sequence
and, from what I understand, I need to enter each separately under the
appropriate
date the census was taken to view that person's information in that manner.
Can that happen if I list all census records as an event? Am I missing some
wonderful
trick here?

Thanks, Marie

Hi, I am still trying to create Census events for each year of the census
(Census 1881, Census 1871 etc). Other programs (PAF5 and TMG5) allow you to
"copy" an event definition then make any necessary changes.

It seems that in Legacy you must create a "blank" event and then copy and
paste each sentence line (8 in all). This is rather time consuming if I
want to create 7 census events for UK and an additional 15 or more of the
US.

I can't believe there isn't a quicker way. But perhaps there isn't....
