I decided on the MRIN system because the MRIN is on the family view in
Legacy and it's a simple matter of looking in my paper files for that
number. I was having trouble finding what I wanted in my paper files until I
settled on this system. I have also re-numbered my MRINS so that my direct
line is at the front of my paper files.

Filing by surnames simply doesn't work for me. My Danish patronymics (where
each child is named after the father's first name) are not surnames. I have
a lot of Nielsens who are not related to each other. Niels Jrgensen's
children, for instance, are Jens Nielsen, Karen Nielsdatter, etc. Niels
Pedersen's children are also named Nielsen and Nielsdatter, but they
probably are not related because Niels Jrgensen's father was Jrgen Hansen
and Niels Pedersen's father was Peder Olsen. Are you confused? I was having
a lot of trouble finding the right Nielsens. Even my Canadian-French
ancestors are confusing with their "dit" names.

Everybody has a way that works for them. This one works best for me. Jane
asked how people filed their paper, so I shared my method. And I'm eternally
thankful to Legacy for helping me to keep it all organized because
organization is not my long suit.
