When wall charts require separate software (addon) or a GEDCOM file
transfer, a program with a low price or "free" download is _incomplete_ for
many researchers. Frequency and size of downloads was not mentioned in the
comparison and at least one product in the list was an older version
released a few months before Legacy 5 shipped in Nov 2003.

Legacy 5 users recommend printing pictures with different software because
birth, christening, marriage, death and burial images are not included in
book reports. Other event pictures are limited to the same size as
individual pictures. Still waiting for a corrected Legacy Relationship Chart
many months after the problem was identified.

Text-only detail collectors have very different methods of evaluating
genealogy software from those interested in pictures or books. My method is
to pick the software that makes the most suitable reports and charts without
editing, then plan data entry to survive file transfers. That means using
fewer data fields and different methods than a Legacy-only user.

I have four of the current genealogy programs installed on this computer.
Each has some features not in the others. Various other trial versions and
demos have been used for experiments over the years but it is hard to learn
multiple programs well enough for a fair evaluation. Some of my friends used
two or more genealogy programs that stopped development.

If events (or facts) are joined together in computerized sentences, the
customers should plan to become experts in the use of a full-featured word
processor to edit every report. The cost of the word processor software also
needs to be considered as part of the family project cost. -- Elizabeth,
family historian since 1967
