Mary,
Your situation prompted me to set up these folks in my sample db. I entered
A, B, C (and D, C's husband). Then I tried the Relationship Calculator. I
had A on the left, then I had to select the person on the right. So, if I
select C or D, A is the daughter. Who were you entering on the right?
Okay, so then I selected X (the grandmother) and it showed descent through B
(birth mother). That's with B *OR* C/D as preferred parents. That is, I
could not get it to show descent through C. In fact, if I put C on the
right, the relationship (through common ancestor X) was "Niece" - correct.
I entered B and C first as daughters of X. Then entered A as daughter of B,
then D as husband of C, then linked C/D to A (child status and both
relationships=Adopted). But surely the sequence in which you entered the
data cannot determine what is displayed in the relationship calculator???
Hmm... a good mystery.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Relationship Calculator

Child "A" in my database, whose mother "B" died in childbirth, was
adopted by her mother's sister, Aunt "C". I have marked the
relationship to the Aunt and uncle as "Adopted".
The Relationship Calculator shows "A" as the daughter of "C". I feel
this is a secondary relationship?. Surely the R.C. should show the
primary, blood relationship, ie descent from A's grandfather ?
Have I missed a step somewhere?
Thanks,
Mary Young
