I think what Bill means is that once you've created a column layout you can give it a name and save it. Check out the Save.. button after you click the Options button in Index view.

Thanks, Bill. I haven't been able to find "template" in either the online help or the printed user guide, but I did find that I could include the MRIN by right-clicking on column header in the Index View. That does it, though I still can't sort on it (minor detail).
For those who are interested, I discovered this in the "Tips and Tricks" section in the printed User Guide. Great resource.... I'm going through it now and trying all different sorts of things.

When you use the Index View tab you can set up a whole host of separate templates. Besides the original default one, I have one showing Birth/Baptism, one showing Marriage (incl MRIN's) , and one showing Deaths/Burials ...
