Rich, >Why don't you just run your Legacy data file directly from your flash drive >all the time???
I think some of this speaks to a MUCH bigger issue. I'm an old developer who still firmly believes that applications should not install ANYTHING to any place other than their own folder. This not only makes for a clean system and simple removal of a product but also allows fully for things like running from a device like a Flash Drive. The only thing holding people back from being able to do this is Microsoft's ridiculous flawed design and Legacy's reliance on Microsoft products that work this way. Several other programming languages (non-Microsoft products) install without the need for all the garbage MS stuffs here, there and everywhere. If Legacy were to be ported to such a language, portability would become a minor issue. The issue of establishments not wanting you to run the software would still be an issue, but that's another discussion. 1. What does your comment have to do with my comment. I am talking about the DATA file not the application >DC - Legacy cannot be installed directly to a flash drive that I know of. I actually believe that it could be depending on just how much Legacy itself installs elsewhere. It's quite possible that many systems have already installed the needed Microsoft Visual Basic files needed to run. 2. As designed, it will install files that it needs to the OS folders. If you rely on another computer to have the correct version of these runtime files, you could be asking for data corruption. I wouldn't rely on this nor would I recommend anyone else do so. I thought you said you were an old developer. If you really are, you would know this. In the future, please reply to the original note and make it relevant to the topic in the note (top part) Glen ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rich Heimlich" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, January 16, 2005 11:14 PM Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] Using Legacy with USB drive On Sun, 16 Jan 2005 18:26:47 -0800, you wrote: >Why don't you just run your Legacy data file directly from your flash drive >all the time???
