Mary, I don't know the answer to this question. Ken might be able to answer how the search routine works. These are my observations while using the IGI search feature: 1.) I am on my first pass. With this pass, I will fill as many ordinances as possible. 2.) When I limit the results to 50 and at 15 or 20 I stop using the "that's enough" button, I don't get all the best results. I have gone back and re-run the search on the same person and found that there were more results that had very high probability of being matches. In fact these were the ones I needed. It program does different hits. I don't know how much I am missing and won't until I finish this pass. Once I have this pass done, I will go back and limit my search to only people with a tag of 2. (Tag 2 indicates to me that I still need ordinances.) I think that limiting your search you may loose some information. If you have a small enough file, (under 1000 individuals to search) you may not want to limit the results. However, doing so will greatly increase the size of the .IGI file 3.) I use several tag numbers in Legacy to limit the program from having to do unnecessary searching. My tag structure is as follows: Tag1 = Needs to be searched Tag2 = Needs ordinances (either all or some) Tag3 = All ordinances filled in Tag4 = Living individual Before using the IGI Search, I went through my file and did a search for all set to living. I then verified that they were actually living. Then I marked them with Tag4 and removed Tag1. (There are over 15,000 individuals in my database that are living and the IGI doesn't contain information on the living. This would have been a huge waste of time searching the living.) I do a filtered search on Tag1. When I find and update individuals, I then go back and do a search on those modified today. I then change Tag1 into either Tag2 or Tag3. 4.) The next pass I run, I will put the search results back to the default of 5000. Once I am satisfied that all ordinance work that has been done is recorded, then I will be able to do Temple Ready and submit more ordinance work to be completed and added to my file. I know this didn't exactly answer your question. But, I hope that my observations help with your IGI search decisions.
