Put it in [[]] brackets so it doesn't show in reports and remove them when building the page. Legacy will automatically convert the < > to html < > and the image will be right below the text. I do this when I want aligned tables to show -- see the Receipt event at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~silversmiths/makers/silversmiths/35 726.htm Wm Voss -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Kenneth S Heard Sent: Sunday, 13 March, 2005 13:49 To: [email protected] Cc: 'LegacySupport' Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] Where to record correspondence Friends I am happy with what folk are saying generally about "attaching" correspondence within particular "Events" (whatever you choose to use as the particular (set of) "Event" label(s) for tht purpose) -which is what I do - but I have a further question: What do folk do about 'including' (I'm deliberately avoiding the word "attach") material which is 'native' in "html" format? Obviously, one *could* first cut-and-paste a 'screen image' of an "html" document into "plain text" and then paste that (plain text) into "Notes", or "Details" or whatever. Indeed, I *have* done that! However, it would be nice to treat 'html' files just like photographs ('jpg' or whatever format), or Video (.avi or .mov files but, not, I believe (yet) .mpg files), or Sound files (.wav, .mp3 or .mid files) and "attach" an 'html' file to an Event (or to a Source) directly in the 'Notes' or 'Detail' *without* first having to convert to plain text. I know that one can, and I do, "include" 'html' files as a "pseudo" Sound or Video image, but the trouble with that is that "thumbnail image" gets displayed only as a 'Sound' or 'Video' icon, rather than as a thumbnail of the actual document. That said, actually "opening" the thumbnail (which is, sadly, unidentified at first, except for the visual label "Video" or "Sound") *does* display the 'html' file correctly - in my normal, default "browser". All it would take, I *think*, is for the "picture" handling part of Legacy (most especially the "Picture Centre", but other bits as well!) to recognise 'html' (and, of course, 'htm') as a *standard* file type *at all stages* and to open it (as thumbnail or 'windowed' document) accordingly. ================= Dr Kenneth S Heard Bassett Southampton SO16 3NQ England -----Original Message----- From: "Glen Ballard" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] Where to record correspondence Date: Sat, 12 Mar 2005 12:55:36 -0800 Reply-To: [email protected] Hi John, I create an event under the individual called "Correspondence." In this event, I put all the pertinent information. If the correspondence was via a letter, I also scan the letter and attach the image to the event(especially if the letter was hand written) In the description of the event, I put the type of correspondence - letter, email, phone, personal interview (I also attach an audio file of the conversation - I have a digital recorder with USB attachment.), etc... Hope this helps.
