Jim A system that seems to stand the test of time is to number sequentially. After many years of research this one seems to make the most sense. There where two posts suggesting sequential numbering one is the following by Jim Winfrey found under the original subject of Another Quesiton on the 4th of April and one by me under Filing systems by Surname or RIN(search 001 in archives) "I went through all the wrong ways and right ways to file my paper stuff. Finally I settled on a practice that suits me. First I number every document sequentially. I started with ooo1 thinking I would never get to 10000 documents." I file by document type it is ok. My question to Gayle about changing RIN and MRIN to get her thinking. Karen V. Sipe
