Hans,

In Family View, look at the spouses button in the lower left corner of the
Husband's and Wife's boxes. The buttons will show a small square with the
number of spouses. If there is, for example, a '2' where there should be a
'1' then there is an extra marriage that needs to be taken care of.

In such instances your two 'missing' children may be linked to the extra
marriage. By clicking on the Spouse buttons you can see what marriages and
individual has. (Alternatively you can open the Marriage List and check the
marriages for the Husband and the Wife to see how many there are.)

If an individual is listed with duplicate marriages (married to the
same spouse/same RIN more than once), you will want to remove the duplicate
with the fewest or no children. Please jot down the names and RIN numbers of
ALL children before you proceed.)

1. In Family View move the couple into Husband and Wife position.
2. Click the 'Wives' button (lower left corner of Husband box). The 'Wives
of...' dialog box will open.
3. Highlight the duplicate wife entry to be removed and click the Unlink
button.
4. Another dialog box will open showing the spouse plus any children.
5. Next click the Yes button.
6. If these steps resulted in a marriage to 'Unknown' it is because there
were children linked to the marriage just removed.
7. In the 'Wives of...' dialog box highlight the 'Unknown' spouse and click
the Delete button.
8. Another dialog box will open showing the spouse and any children. If you
have not already done so, write down the names and RIN numbers of any
children because they will need to be re-linked as your last step.
9. Reconnect each 'orphaned' child by linking him/her as an existing person
already in the file. (Adding him/her as a new person will only create more
work for you by making a duplicate record that will then have to be merged
or deleted later on.)

Another possibility is that there are duplicate records for one of the
spouses and they will need to be merged. See the article 'Fixing Bad
Relationship Links in Your Family File' in the April 5, 2005, Legacy News at
http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/Newsletter/LN04-05-2005.asp#7.

I have not seen your family file, but I think this information will get you
going in the right direction. BTW, there is a new update for Legacy as of
14 April 2005.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Broken link

I have a strange behaviour: a couple has 5 children, which can be seen
correctly in every View, and one can get from the parents down to every
child.
BUT 2 of the children dont show their parents, there is no way to go from
these people to their parents, so there is a link broken upwards to the
parents....
